haven’t had scapes yet
We have scapes at our house!
slowly pull the scape out of the garlic plant
when the garlic grows
tender piece that turns into the flower
if it turns into the flower it takes all the energy
You don’t want it to flower
pull that out, and pull it quite gently you’ll get quite a long scape
Does it taste like garlic?
Yes it does!
- chop it up
- fresh garlic
- pesto if you want
I use scapes instead of green onions
fresh mint or cilantro
She says chop but I might do it pretty thinly sliced
want to chopping, and pureeing is starting the digestive process early
less work your body has to do to digestive the food
Most of us probably don’t chew enough
So we can start the chewing process outside our body
make a sauce
- garlic clove
- fresh greens or green onions
quarter teaspoon ginger or fresh ginger!
Hey you know what I got in NY? Fresh Turmeric
They have it here at the health food stores well

remain kind of a gold color
but you do need to mind that it is a dye as well
- olive oil
- avocado oil
- coconut oil
- rice vinegar
- soy sauce or Bragg’s amino acids
there’s a Braggs coconut amino acids instead of soy
- plain greek yogurt
I’ve been really enjoying plain greek yogurt!
- You can add some local raw honey or maple syrup on the East Coast if that is accessible
chow mein noodles
up for the carbs
raw version of what to do with cabbage
- rice vinegar

will help aid in that digestive process

Cabbage Comfort Food
My former mother-in-law Jamaican
watch her do in the kitchen
she’s cooking me the cabbage
very homey and soothing
She will start with some kind of oil and add spices
- fresh garlic if you have it
if you don’t have peppers you can skip them
if you’re trying to be seasonal
stalks of heartier greens
kale or chard
crunch from stalks
turmeric and ginger as well
Typical head of cabbage
you can use the Napa cabbage
cook a lot quicker
mix the red and green together
whole head of cabbage
it will take up some room but it will cook down
slice that really thinly
toss it around
spices make it so delicious
add whatever vegetables you have mix with other greens
I added some shitake mushrooms for some protein the other day
Can be such a soothing side dish
I even had it as a main dish when I cooked it with mushrooms
mix it with rice
serve it with fish
We’ll talk about fermenting maybe in the fall.
Do you use the Napa cabbage
You could use but it will cook quicker
can cook it
tend to use heartier cabbage
Could you use a red cabbage?
red or a green cabbage
more anti oxidants
can’t really go wrong unless your cooking lentils and pasta together! That’s a mistake I made when I was 21!
experimenting and play
try the two different cabbage
vary the spices
use ones your familiar with
add one new one
experiment take a recipe
