Mike’s Green Garden is a journal of our gardening journey in what I call the Organic Oasis. It’s a beautiful home nestled in the mountains of Montana.
Do you grow a garden each year? Do you just love the taste of a homegrown tomato in summer? are you disappointed with the produce in your market in the middle of winter? Does the price of organic vegetables at the grocery store make you cringe?
Are you looking to expand your garden to grow enough produce to feed your family throughout the year? Then this is the place for you!
We’ll teach you how to grow enough vegetables on your own garden to feed your family for a year or at least largely supplement your produce expenses with delicious home grown food!
From replacing tomatoes on your salads with flavorful pickled beets in winter to creating lettuce wheels that provide prolific salads all summer long we’ll share tips and techniques to help you from sprout to harvest using the best earth friendly techniques that will not only help you to thrive but care for our planet too!
Mike is the gardener and resident baker.
I (Jackie) am the journalist.
I like to hang out in the garden where I read and paint.
Here’s the link to my artist website where you can see many of my projects or you can purchase some of my notecards on Etsy.
Sometimes I even dig some garden beds, and plant flowers, but Mike does most of the work in the vegetable garden.
A few years ago we planted an orchard for Earth Day in 2012.
And this year we expanded with a fresh well and grew some wheat.
We had a pretty early frost so our fall harvest was tough but Mike canned over 32 jars of green beans.
And is set to harvest over 100 lbs of potatoes and plenty of carrots and beets.
Oh, and he also canned a dozen or so quarts of pickles!
I hope to start the organic gardener podcast soon that will highlight other gardeners journeys and answer any questions we can help you with about how to grow your own organic vegetables.
I am looking forward to learning from you!
