Hope Innovations
Another Rockstar Millennial is going to be my featured guest today to talk to us about his business Hope Innovations.ca is a new up and growing hydroponic business who has developed an indoor garden that will grow anything you wish, anytime of the year, anywhere.
Does not matter the size of your place, season it is or the type of plant. It is an easy affordable system that gives anyone the opportunity to grow their own healthy chemical free food.
Garden of Eden hydroponic kit
We created a hydroponic kit that is less than half the price of any hydroponic kit out there the same size. We have found an innovative solution to no longer need to transplant everything you want to grow in your system. We created a system that you can set up, fill up, plant up, with no way to screw up. This system can be used indoors or outdoors, and requires less than 15 mins of maintenance a month. We have created the first “anyone can succeed” hydroponic system, that will allow everyone to grow there own food with no risk of dangerous chemicals or preservatives added, while still growing nutritious delicious food.
Hydroponics
You’re just north of me in Canada, right so? Do you want to tell listeners about your self?Tell us a little about yourself.
For sure, I am Ryan Agree. I’m from a small town called Edson, in Alberta, Canada! I’m the founder ofHope Innovations.ca .
HOPE stands for
-
Hydroponic
-
optimized
-
personal
-
environments
If you have a
- bad climate
- or don’t have space to grow
You can grow year round
- affordabilty
- chemical free
- making it accessible to anybody to have their own food
Engineering Roots
Ive always been interested in
- creating
- building
- designing
I entered and ended up winning from North America in my age group
I love
- designing
- creating
Naturally I thought I’d get into engineering after school, but after doing some job fairs and talking to people in the trade but after talking to some people in the field it kind of soured me to the whole idea.
I wanted an a job where I could
- design
- create and
- build design
but that job doesn’t exist except what I do now. I am still hoping I can make that job work
Doing what my friends are doing, so all my friends started getting jobs around Edmond
high school
definitely do university
- that education invaluable
- you won’t lose
ended up
- mainly lumber
- oil and gas
- coal
graduated in 2008
right as the recession hit. You are handing out resumes as people are putting up out of business signs
Eventually got a job and ended up running some facilities
never really happy wanted to scratch that itch to build and design things and do what I did kind of as a kid
I always see stories of these people who do these things
phd’s
or doing something for 50 years and it’s really intimidating that someone just coming out of school could break into a market so competitive. After watching shows like
- Dragon’s Den (Canada’s version of Shark Tank)
- Shark Tank
fewer 0s
- every day people
- see a problem come up with a solution
- really be successful and do something they love
- successful people
People who were geniuses Steve Jobs
At the pinnacle of the entrepreneur world and realized they are not a whole lot further ahead and a lot of people coming out of school and that gave me the confidence that this was something I could do
I was lucky
I had been socking away money for years
funding the idea
a bit of an epiphany
relied around the idea of growing food around areas where we weren’t growing food and utilize a small footprint
- don’t have the weather
- don’t have the space
And pump out the food as possible
It drew me into hydroponics
looking at the feasibilty
- mostly just an idea
- talking with the family
- to start with
- hydroponics seems like the way to start so let’s
give it a whirl
- we went to Canadian Costco
- realized you can’t just get one, a kit or anything.
Not yet!
- that’s what we thought was odd
- this is something I think people will need
So we started
Hope Innovations
2 years of development design
- affordable
- super simple
- grows things like crazy!
That would be the story in a nut shell.
Sorry everyone But I have been so busy with grades I could not get these show notes done this weekend! I will asap!

I already have so many questions! I kind of want to hear that story and that’s part of your journey but where would the idea come from. I have already been to your website and your facebook page, I see why your engineering background tell everyone about your product! What is it how much does it grow?
It would be
it
that’s the beauty of it
4ish by 3 feet
about the size of a small coffee table
24 cups
comes with lights
everything you need to grow
started it off
need a central theme
simplicity
anybody can do
hydroponic expert
afforable
pay for itself
start growing food
start saving money after
gravy
effective
want it to grow food the way we say it does
system
expensive or complicated
small simple
expensive and don’t grow anything kind of like a novelty
trying to just grow something hydroponically
build our own kits
why don’t people have these on shelves
must not be as easy as we think it is
common
compressed bricks
swell
seeds
windowsill
grow for 2 weeks then you’d have to transplant
first part you realize
via hydroponics
you have to et rid of all the soil
remove the soil
cly bees or perlite
like surgery
shaking and trying
lost to 30% to 50%
stressful
hard on the plants
it is
time it takes to get to that point
a lot of time your waiting
look off the roots
something along those lines
hydroponic system is very clean
have that futuristic look
around about 70 years
aztecs used back in the day
technology developing
everyday people
kits like ours
ability
the first step we wanted to remove this transplanting step
innovation
big problems we run into
drop whatever seeds you want your done
cup
does the rest
problem when you have seeds
you can’t
dark damp environment
light
fungal problems
algae
balance of trying to have all the things the seed needs
wick like systems
wick the water to the peat moss
didn’t work very good
super complicated
how would we build it
wicking idea
self-watering method
sourced
rockwool
bunch of versions
perfect for what we do
wicks
will draw water up
ideal water to air ratio
antifungal properties
readily availaibe
easy to mass produce
affordable to keep using it
protect the seed
shell coating
keeps it from getting fungus
causing
pests to start growing over it
cup design
keeps it dark when it does spout it can get to the light easy
short enough the roots can get to
starts growing
start up something
can someone do this cheaper then me
I developed
push you out of business
always looming
let’s see if we can patent this idea
it’s a process
we’re patent pending
here back in the states and canada
keep the values with this company
huge corporation
out produce us!
designing the kit in such a way
it didn’t need a bunch of moving parts
no leaks
engineering
optimal flow
ideal space between your plants
grow
compact
supports all the weight when your there
nailed it
to top everything off
probably
very universal
any seed you want
seeds from the local grocery store
drop it in
proven it numerous times
drop the seed
your done
used different lights
on your balcony outside
anything you can do with hydroponics
much more
that’s the
with the organic garden
being able to walk outside
grab what you need
go to your indoor garden
grab what you need
don’t have to wash it
pretty unique!
really really neat
we grew up on the farm
picking it up
brushing off
our seasons are staggered
garden here
in about 2 more weeks
picking things
carrots
potatoes
huge hail storms
sucks you get all psyched up
it just gets crushed
it’s a really cool idea
be able to walk into the next room
not something
having green stuff were you’re living
have that with the garden
peppers in the middle of winter!
pepper plant in the basement in the middle of winter
tomatoes
cucumbers
really good success
chili peppers
green peppers
broccoli
cauliflower
squash
greens
just growing lettuce
24 plants
ready to harvest them
system
3-4$ here
system pays for itself
kale
spinach
done
weirder stuff
strawberries
spinach
herbs
cilantro
it could be
that’s the one thing that’s great about it
not just for the hydroponic crowd
harvest time isn’t the end of it
snow
gardening season isn’t over
that’s the one part that people can find for it
best part
organic community
chemical free
prototypes
stood out to me
grew some beans
cool cause they could pick it off
no concern to have to wash it
clean as can be
neat kind of experience
completely chemical free
guano
bone meal
organic based nutrients
environmentally friendly way
sustainable holistic
not really
the cool part about the system
sourced about what works the best
as much as you want for anything
huge impacts
lights
nutrients
specific tools
not so much
limit the amount of
15 minutes a month of maintenance
knife a bowl
sign up for the community
observe
hate people who spam
only guy who is going to send
prices on systems
kickstarter will be able to buy whole system
ball rolling
some capital
to start manufacturing
interested in the idea
awareness
success make some
wouldn’t be cooking
garden pickled carrots
don’t last me a month
dill
i have to admit
my mom’s with the secret ingredients
I help cut them up and put everything in the jar
dill
garlic
pepper
can eat them year round!
look forward to at the end
biggest thing is
my quote
finding dori
just keep swimming
not gonna be fun
hard
going to be that way and expect it
starting to get tough!
kind of
took me too long to realize it
not something I should quit because it’s
balance starting up
if it’s hard
gonna mean something later on
easy
not someintg
hard things are worth doing
don’t give up early
because a problem came up it’s not meant to be
very lest stay positive

Final question-
if there was one change you would like to see to create a greener world what would it be? For example is there a charity or organization your passionate about or a project you would like to see put into action. What do you feel is the most crucial issue facing our planet in regards to the environment either in your local area or on a national or global scale?
My biggest thing is what we need for a greener planet
the education
the opportunity for people to have what they need
learning to read and write
access to have the info
youtube
books
get experts opinions
learn so much always at my fingertips
that’s what I think the world needs
we just finished talking to a non-profit of this
for that exact purpose
an organization called Child’s dream
thailand
don’t have schools
don’t have stationary
teachers don’t
palce you can do a lot of good
5 kids stationary for a year for
supply that next piece
teaching material
access to knowledge
build ideas
the best of the best opinions
do what they
solution that we hope
have with
$15/per kit
5 kids
portion
have
Do u have an inspiration tip or quote to help motivate our listeners to reach into that dirt and start their own garden?
I guess I’ll go back to dori
just keep swimming
I don’t want to act like I have a lot for answers
do’t let people because it’s hard that you don’t quit
you turn around and go cak…
